The ‘Original Maker’, striking coins since 886, The Royal Mint are the world’s leading export mint for both currency and bullion. The Britannia coin, in both gold and silver, has become a much loved investment coin globally. Additionally, collector coins from the Royal Mint have sometimes increased in value by many times, and are seen as a solid investment choice.
To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III on the 6th May 2023, The Royal Mint has released a wide range of special edition coins to celebrate the royal occasion. This edition is the silver proof Five Pound coin, featuring a unique design by the esteemed artist, Timothy Noad. The coronation of His Majesty King Charles III marks the beginning of a new phase for British royalty and the United Kingdom. Taking the monarchy forward into a new Carolean age, His Majesty The King is the first British monarch to be crowned in the twenty-first century. The last Carolean era was that of Charles II, whose restoration to the throne took place in 1660. Signaling a forward-looking reign, King Charles III chose to use the name ‘Charles’, rather than the Latin equivalent ‘Carolus’, on coinage, and to be crowned during the same ceremony as Her Majesty The Queen Consort. On Saturday May 6th, 2023, King Charles III was officially crowned following his accession to the throne in 2022. This momentous occasion will be marked with a series of proof coins from The Royal Mint.
