AUTHORISED NZ DISTRIBUTOR
Founded in 1896 as a branch to the British Royal Mint, Perth Mint today is one of the largest minting plants globally, owned by the Western Australian government. Manufacturer of the iconic ‘Kangaroo’ gold and silver investment coins, Perth Mint also produce a popular lunar series and a range of sought-after collector coins.
With its creative use of opal in the shape of a horse, this 1oz silver proof coin is a superb memento for those celebrating the 2026 Lunar New Year and everyone born under the influence of the seventh animal of the ancient lunar calendar.
Australia supplies the overwhelming majority of the world’s opal, a colourful mineral-like material which is put to outstanding artistic use in this exceptionally popular series. With previous opal lunar coins sold out, this Year of the Horse addition is sure to be another keenly sought after collectable.
The coin’s reverse incorporates a circular panel featuring a horse detailed in pure Australian opal. Struck elements include intricate patterning with stylised depictions of marigold, a plant traditionally considered lucky for those born in the Year of the Horse. The design also includes the inscription ‘YEAR OF THE HORSE’ and the Chinese character for ‘horse’ together with the 2026 year-date, the coin’s weight and purity, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Variations in colour and appearance of the insert are inherent due to the natural formation of opal, making each coin in the mintage one-of-a-kind.
PACKAGING
